Happy New Year!!!
Cross Country captain: Andy Hilton : contact him directly here.
Cross country is not only a great change from the summer of road and track competitions but it also (arguably) the most fun you can have with a muddy field and a pair of spikes! For more details contact Andy Hilton or your coach.

Race Reports
Golden Acre Park Relays, 16th July 2008
Cross country racing traditionally takes place over the winter months, but that didn't stop Leeds athletic club Abbey Runners from organising a cross country relay at Golden Acre Park, Bramhope last Wednesday (16th July). City of York Athletic Club made the trip and were rewarded with a hatful of trophies. The senior men, veteran men and juniors all won, with the ladies team being pipped at the post.
The race was a 3 leg relay, each leg about 2.5 miles long with some sharp climbs. On the 1st leg Skipton AC took the lead with the York mens and veterans team having a good battle for 4th place in which Graham Birch for the veterans eventually prevailed over Mike Raynes for the men. Emma Willits put Yorks womens team in front as did Charlotte Mason the juniors, while Zoe Robson ran for the York mixed team, a female team of juniors and seniors.
Mark Metcalf for York men ran fastest on leg 2, but could only pull up 2 places to 3rd. For the veterans over 60 vet Jim Shemilt dropped to 5th , passed only by clubmate Metcalf. Karen Wood for the ladies held on to 1st place, but a team called Rubix made up ground. Saffron Botterill increased Yorks lead in the junior competition and Kate Harris ran for the Mixed team.
Andy Hilton started the 3rd and last leg just 14 seconds adrift of Skipton with Abbey Runners also just ahead. As course record holder he was the favourite to cross the line 1st and so it proved, with Andy finishing 30 seconds ahead of Skipton with Abbey 3rd. Andy ran the days fastest leg, but didn’t beat his own course record. For the veterans Andy Normandale ran a solid, but isolated leg bringing the team in 5th, but way ahead of the next vets team. For the ladies, Helen Garnham ran the clubs fastest leg, but unfortunately it was not fast enough to hold off Jess Trowbridge of Rubix, who ran the days fastest female leg. Katy Wood completed the junior team, who were nearly 5 minutes ahead of their nearest rivals, while Natalie Greaves completed the Mixed team.
Results
Yorkshire Veterans Xc Championships, Sunday 13th January 2008
A great set of results from the Castle Cliffe course in deepest Keighley. Top performance of the day came from Dawn Gibbs who too the F50 gold medal. Andy Normandale narrowly missed out on the podium with 4th place in the M50 category. More medals would surely have been won but for the withdrawal due to illness of key runners, Jim Shemilt in the over 60s, Piran White in the over 40's and Kathryn Dickinson in the womens race. The club was well represented, great work!

National Cross Country Relays, Saturday 3rd November 2007
A great day out on Saturday, with a reasonable turn out from the club and a host of excellent performances.
The U15 boys kicked off our day albeit as an incomplete unit with Oli Bird and Ryan Buck cracking out a couple of great individual efforts. The U13 girls produced possibly our best result of the day with a brilliant 14th place - remember this is a national competition - so a very well done to Saffron Botterill, Katey Wood and Lauren Bird. Our U15 girls also put in a super effort, placing 45th thanks to the combined running of Charlotte Mason, Roison Parkinson and Rachel Colton. The U17 lads continued the theme of the day, getting stuck in; placing 36th with Kieran Smith and Iain Lynn running first and second legs and would not have completed had Oli not stepped in after his earlier efforts to bring the team home!. Great work by all the junior runners.
The seniors also fared well. The ladies team of Becky Penty, Angela Peace and Karen Wood looked right at home on the superbly manicured course coming home a highly respectable 31st. The lads 'A' team recorded their best placing at the event with 45th thanks to Andy Hilton, Mark Metcalfe, Paul Goble and Piran White. The lads 'B' team also stuck to their task admirably coming home 124th (of a total 143 completing teams) with the notable conntributories being Mike Raynes, Jim Shemilt, Ian Wilcock and Alan Lynn. Fab stuff.
Thanks to all those that made the effort. I know you all had a great time!! Full results link below:
