Millennium Bridge Races

2010 Race

Unfortunately this event will not be happening in 2010. The is because of serious illness in the Race Directors family has meant that the preparation has not been done. It is intended that next year the races will be more of a committee responsibility  to prevent a similar occurance in the future. Many apologies to those hoping to run in the event.

2009 Race Report

Thanks to everyone who ran and also those who helped with the marshalling and officiating. I hope you all enjoyed it. It seemed to go pretty well to me despite having a huge entry on the day, which made things a bit hectic. Well done in particular to Nicola Geddes who was not only 1st lady, but beat the course record with a time of 17 mins 9 secs and claimed the £50 bonus. Hopefully see you back next year.

The results are now available - see link further down the page. Unfortunately there are a few gaps in the fun run as some of the runners were not exiting the finish funnel in the conventional way ! If anybody can help up fill in blanks, please get in contact.

The York Millennium Bridge Races takes place this year on Tuesday 11th August, from St Georges field car park near the centre of York. There is a 1 mile fun run, a 2.5k race and 5k races. The races are organised jointly by City of York AC and York Acorn RC with support from Sweatshop and Brooks. Please note that due to problems last year, with leading runners in the ladies race having difficulties with lapping slower runners in Rowntree Park, we have changed the races into a 'Fast One' and a 'Slower One'.

The timetable is :

6.50       1 mile fun run     entry fee £1     entry on the night only

7.00       2.5k race            entry fee £2     prizes for under 13's and under 15's, ages at 31st August 2008

7.20       1st 5k race, the 'Fast One'

7.35       2nd 5k race, the 'Slower One'

The 1st 5k race is for junior/senior veteran men up the the age of 50 and junior/senior/vet women up to the age of 54.  Prizes for these categories will be taken from this race. However, anyone in these categories expecting to take longer than 24 minutes should run in the 'Slower One'.

The 2nd 5k race is for slower runners, expecting to take longer than 24 minutes to complete the race and for older runner, veteran men 60 and above and veteran women 55 and above. The prizes for these veterans categories will be taken from this race.
