102nd   Mike Tasker       49.21

Dent Fell Race, 29th August

Andy Normandale was the clubs only representative in this race, the 5th counter out of 6 for the 2009 English Championship. The race was only 3 miles long, but with about 1,000ft of climb to the top of Rise Hill. Andy went out fast and was probably about 30th at the top, but lost places on the descent to finish 41st overall, but 4th over 50. Overall this probably leaves him in 9th place, but several of the runners ahead of him have already done 4 scoring races, whereas Andy has only done 3.  He should therefore be able pick up a few places at the last race, the Langdale Horseshoe in October and he may manage to equal last years 6th place overall.

Escrick Trail Race, 23rd August

29th     Steve Collett       42.20

58th    Charlotte Mason  45.26

80th    Dave Paver         47.41

211th  Rod Peet             62.10

Guisborough Grunt, 18th August

A new course this year after problems in previous years. I didn't run myself being on holiday and haven't had any feedback about whether the new route was an improvement on the old. Ian Smallwood in 23rd was our 1st counter and won the over 45's, so surely guaranteeing victory for the series. It loks like Phil Paxman and Steve Mummery had a right ding dong battle in the over 55's with Phil prevailing in 37th and Steve just 1 place behind. The battle for the overall title remains on a knife edge, with Phil narrowly holding the lead. Mike Hetherton was again 2nd over 60, behind Scarborough's Neil Scruton who could still pip Mike for the overall title. Geoff Binns was 83rd, Carol Dixon-Yeung, despie some navigation problems 90th and Paul Richardson 91st.

Millennium Bridge Races, 11th August

August is dominated for me by the Millennium Bridge Races. Our senior runners are asked to help rather than compete, but it was good to see some excellent performances by our juniors. Many thanks to all those whose efforts help to make the event such a success. I haven't had the figures yet, but I believe the event will have made a significant profit. Gribdale Gallop fell race, 4th August

This race is probably the hardest of the Summer series and in my opinion the best. It starts with the comparatively easy climb up to the Captain Cook monument and then after several miles of comparatively easy moorland running has the tough ascent of Roseberry Topping. However the difficulties don't end there are there is still hard work to climb Little Roseberry before a gentle descent to the finish. The race attracted a high class field with Andy Normandale top counter in 9th place despite feeing he had one of best runs of the series. He still won the over 50's category. Our other winner was Steve Mummery in the over 55's, while Ian Smallwood and Mike Hetherton were 2nd in the over 45's and over 60's. Carol Dixon Yeung made a very impressive debut on the fells and finished 2nd in her category the over 45's.

In the overall series, Andy Normandale has already won the over 50's, Ian Smallwood leads the pack in the over 45's, Steve Mummery and Phil Paxman are battling it out for the over 55's while Mike Hetherton leads the over 60s, though may be caught by Neil Scruton of Scarborough, if Neil runs the 3 remaining races in the series.
