City of York AC - Hammer Throwers Results
Senior member Ben Jones opened the 2008 season in January, recording a throw of 50.49 metres when he visited Bellville in South Africa – a throw which places him in the UK Top Twenty.
Luke Slater, Under 17, opened the UK season at the Scunthorpe Winter Warm Up meeting at the end of March. He won the Under 17 competition with 46.15 metres in cold conditions. He followed this up, on the 12th April, with a personal best of 47.37 at the Liverpool Throws and Jumps Competition – a throw which also broke the City of York Under 17 club record held by Morgan Bell and places him in the UK Top Ten.
Morgan Bell, now an Under 20, competed in the Senior Competition and also threw a personal best of 47.37 metres which places him a creditable 25th in the UK senior rankings.
On 13th April Morgan Bell came second at the Wakefield Open Senior Men's Competition with a throw 46.31 whilst three younger throwers travelled to Hull to compete in the National Hammer Circle sponsored event which included a number of world class throwers. Luke Slater placed 3rd with 46.40 in the Under 17s, with Lloyd Woolacott coming 4th with a personal best throw of 40.59 metres. Under 15 Sam Blain opened his season with a personal best throw of 43.99 which places him 6th in the UK rankings.
