May road and fell results
6th May 2009
Tadcaster 10k, 26th May
A fine summers evening saw 204 runners participate in the second of the 10km series. The Acorn contingent, whilst fewer than at Pocklingon, remained of high quality and achieved 1st place in the mens team event. Our first runner home in second place was Mark Metcalf who improved from third at Pocklingon. Just behind him were Mark Dowson and Mike Raynes who had battled it out over several kilometres. Matt Driscoll continues to get quicker, he was over 3 minutes quicker this year than last. The mens team was completed by Martin Kirby and Chris Judge. Our first lady home was Dawn Gibbs, 2nd lady, who ran a superb race overtaking Ian Smallwood and Gavin Bannister on the notorious hills and set off in pursuit of Dave Lancaster who was 2nd over 50. The ladies team finished 5th with strong performances from Carol Dixon-Yeung, Jo Ellerton and Emma Taylor. It was noted that Emma & Co missed the start by 5 minutes and yet managed to run a great race, overtaking many back markers. (I think that they were secretly practicing for the Stillington handicap!).
Fox and Hounds fell race, 19th May
Another good club turnout in the 3rd of the summer fell series. This race is a real tester at 9 miles and much along narrow sheep paths. The scenery is wonderful, but it's a shame you get so little opportunity to look at it, as you have to look where you're putting your feet all the time ! Andy Normandale was 1st club counter in 6th place (1st over 50), while Phil Paxman 21st, Steve Mummery 23rd and Martin Perry 25th were close together further down the field to complete the team. Phil and Steve were 1st and 2nd in the over 55's category. Paul Lewis completed the clubs male runners in 68th place, while Sarah Woodhall was 18th lady. Finally the mens team were 3rd behind Knavesmire and Thirsk&Sowerby Harriers.
Newby Hall 10k Trail Race, 17th May
In his 1st outing since the London Marathon Mark Harney finished an excellent 5th overall and 1st veteran.
Kirby Moorside 10k, 3rd May
We had a good start to the month in the latest target race, though it would have been good to have a few more running in the red vest of Acorn. Mark Dowson led the team to victory with an excellent 9th place,
9th Mark Dowson 37.47
17th Matt Driscoll 39.10
25th Dave Muckersie 40.07
48th Matt Rylatt 42.03
110th Fraser Atkinson 45.51
143rd Dan Wyrill 47.10
239th Mark Estienne 51.59
Bluebell Trail 10 mile trail race, Halifax, 3rd May
Meanwhile a couple of our runners ran in this race, with Phil Paxman 36th overall and 4th over 55 in a time of 1.21.30, while Paul Lewis was 113th in 1.32.55.
