Road Running

Please note that City of York AC does NOT affiliate for road running. Members take part in road races as members of our partner club York Acorn Running Club. There have been some instances this year of members running road races in City of York vests which means that we may miss out on team prizes (I believe we have done so this year) and it makes us look foolish to other clubs. If you need an Acorn vest contact John Tattersall or Paul Richardson. So don't forget to wear the read Acorn vest in road races. Note that the same applies to fell and trail races.

York & District Road Races League

The club affiliates to the York and District Road Running League which organises a series of 10k races between May and July. There are usually 5 races plus a staggered start handicap.

Road Championships

A high priority is given to road relay championships, the Northern 12 and 6 stage relays and if we qualify the National relays. The mens event has 12 legs, the womens 6 legs.

Open Races

The club takes part in a large number of open road races, some of which are classified as targets.

The next target race is the Bridlington Half Marathon on Sunday 19th October. The club is taking a minibus to this race, the cost being £10 per seat. If you are interested contact Paul Richardson or John Tattersall.

We organise two open road races :-

Wheldrake 10k and fun runs Unfortunately, due to problems with the course and new health and safety regulations, the Wheldrake 10k did not happen in 2008, but we hope it will return for 2009.

Millennium Bridge races - This year's race was held on 12th August 2008 Results

Clubman/Merit League

The club organises 2 internal competitions using the ositions of club members in (mainly) local races. The 'elite' runners complete for the Clubman and Clubwoman, while everyone else takes part in the Merit League. The reason that there are 2 competitions is that the 'elite' runners are encouraged to take part in championship events such as the Northern Road Relays which are therefore included in the Clubman competition. However most of the slower runners will rarely get the chance to compete in such events, which are therefore not included in the Merit League.  Note that the Clubman/woman and Merit League races include fell, trail and cross country races as well as road.
