Senior Mens/Womens Track and Field League

Team Managers: Neil Hunter and Paul Wilson.

This league is primarily for seniors, veterans and U20's although in exceptional circumstances under 17's may be selected.

What a year!! Double champions, play off victors and northern plate winers!

In 2008 the B team (a cross between Dad's Army, multi-eventers and brilliant young athletes) topped the league in Division 4 and were promoted in their first year. There were too many excellent performances to really mention individuals but for the men Mark Harney had an outstanding series (for a veteran!) and was supported by up and coming stars in Ryan Buck and Ollie Bird. The womens' team saw stellar performances from Yvette Carling being supported by younger athletes like Anna Dew, Sophie and Katie Hunter, Becky Campsall and even guest appearances from the more 'experienced' but still enthusiastic Jan Rigby, Paula Bird and Elaine Wilcock. The women's 4 x 100M at York, although a shade outside the USA world record, was nonetheless a stunning team performance. Well done to all competitors and officials for a tremendous achievement and great team spirit! Bring on Division 3!!

The A team were simply outstanding. Winning all four league matches followed by the play off success bringing promotion to the premier league and then rounded off by the capturing of the northern plate at Manchester. It is not possible, nor appropriate, to single out any individual for specific mentions here as there were far too many excellent performances. Suffice to say these athletes are fantastic role models for our junior athletes to emulate and the fact we have such a young team hopefully gives great optimism for the future. Our team ethic is visable at every event and the support between athletes is a credit to the club. The futures bright - the futures green and black!

Paul Wilson did a fantastic job in organising and motivating his team and deserves a great deal of praise - and we should not forget Richard and Doreen Brown, Roger Everton, Geoff Barraclough and all the other officials representing the Club - top effort, well done and thank you!
